Hi, I am Chris Sun, 你好！ I was born in Shanghai China. I had my university education in Shanghai and worked there for 9 years before I came to UK. I did my PhD in textile technology at Huddersfield University in 1994, and then I have been working with British companies and organisations for more than 20 years, within which I have spent lots of time in dealing with Chinese companies and governmental departments for British enterprises for business promotion, marketing and sales. I was also involved in providing translation services, teaching colleagues business Chinese and culture.
Since year 2000, I have jointly organized and taught Chinese Language classes for Chinese children in our Huddersfield Chinese community, I have taught my own child from beginning to advanced level. I have also spent my leisure time teaching my friends Chinese for different purposes.
I offer Chinese classes from beginners to business and conversation Chinese to suit your needs, I can also arrange one to one classes or any tuition to meet your requirements and time.

My 13 year old daughter has been studying mandarin with Chris for nearly 4 years. My daughter has recently sat and passed the HSK2 exam and is now studying for the HSK3 exam. Chris prepares for each lesson, giving Charlotte homework for her to consolidate her learning. This enables Charlotte to gain the most from each online lesson. Chris is very patient and accommodating. I highly recommend Chris to anyone wishing to learn mandarin.
I have studied Chinese with Chris in one-to-one lessons over a number of years. I was a complete beginner when I joined his class and have progressed much further than I ever imagined! Chris is a very enthusiastic, friendly and patient teacher. I decided to study the HSK syllabus with Chris (up to HSK2 with some HSK3) but he is also happy to customise the content to my needs. I also learnt a lot about Chinese culture, which really helped with my business trips. I highly recommend Chris as a tutor at any proficiency level.
I attend group classes every Tuesday evening. Chris is a great teacher: enthusiastic, friendly and, most importantly, very patient! During our classes we expand our vocabulary and grammar focusing on writing but also our Chinese speaking (teaching us common phrases, slang words and alternatives) to help us develop our conversational skills. We also have the opportunity to learn a lot about the culture and some history of the country linking it to the set of vocabulary we have recently been introduced to. Since my first lesson, I felt I have developed a good friendship with the other students and Chris with a number of social events occurring outside of our lesson time also. I have seen a lot of progress in my Chinese and I hope to continue to learn a lot more from Chris!
Chris is an excellent teacher of Chinese and his enthusiasm is contagious. I am currently 8 months into the beginner’s Chinese course and have gone from not knowing anything to being able to read, write and speak an impressive amount.
Chinese is difficult as there isn’t an alphabet as such, the way the ‘building blocks’ are put together don’t necessarily give you a clue as to what the word says so there is a lot of learning involved. This made starting to learn the language quite daunting but after just a few weeks, Chris made sense of the way words are constructed and the language put together and suddenly it wasn’t so scary.
I’m thoroughly enjoying the course which consists of 2 hours a week on a Tuesday night. There has been a strong emphasis on learning how to read, write and pronounce new vocabulary with bits of conversation interspersed. As our vocabulary has improved, the amount of conversational work we have done has increased. I like the balance that Chris strikes with every lesson.
